After years of neglect three play parks in Hackney are experiencing something of a renaissance, thanks to Pathfinder Phase One.
One play park is introducing Richter waterplay products and using the Timberplay installation team to reinstate and add water play value to a wonderfully designed play area, after nearly 20 years away! The result is that up to 50 children a day are utilising this play space again, with the expectation that this will increase as the summer holidays approach.
With only limited budgets available, play value per investment has been the main criteria for equipment selection. With most of the parks concentrating on provision for toddlers and younger children, Project Designer, Tassy Thompson selected key pieces of equipment for older children, as well as ensuring the sites were inclusive and accessible for less mobile children. Tassy also worked closely with a local team of community volunteers throughout the process to ensure their participation in all decisions. This led to a big community planting day which was a huge success, adding to the sense of ownership. Timberplay´s all in one team effort with designer, consultation facilitator, equipment supplier and installation team has created new opportunities for participation and ensures the process is inclusive in every sense from start to finish.
