After 30 years the playground was looking tired, and so they called in Timberplay to breath fresh life into the space.
Working within the original footprint, Timberplay were able to create an exciting and innovative playground which fitted within the surroundings as it used natural materials, but was also visually stunning. With several other attractions in the area Castle Howard wanted a playground that was different to anything else, a real talking point that kept visitors retuning time and time again´.
Castle Howard initially invited pitches from three companies who promoted a more contemporary approach to play. Hannah Jones, Project Manager at Castle Howard commented on why Timberplay were successful: -
In reality Timberplay were the only company who presented a fresh approach for the entire playground. Although other companies had one or two unusual pieces of equipment, Timberplay´s complete approach to design, together with their huge range of equipment made them the supplier for us.
Installed in June 2008 the playground has 17 key pieces and is suitable for children of all ages. Adventurous new pieces include a 9m pyramid slide, huge cross scale balancers, the ever popular nest swing and huge balancing beams. The architecture of the playground capitalises on the lush landscape to provide further opportunities for imaginative play.
The £250,000 investment has resulted in a playground which appeals to children of all ages and adults too, who can frequently be found playing on the equipment with their children. Castle Howard has already seen an increase in the number of annual passes sold on the back of the new playground and are confident that the playground will continue to attract more new visitors in over the next 12 months.
