Timberplay score double success at Horticulture Week Awards

9/12/2009

Timberplay are riding high after a double success at the 2009 Horticulture Week Landscape and Amenity awards.

Not only was our submission, Castle Howard short listed in the category of Best Playspace, but the overall winner of the category was stocked exclusively with Timberplay equipment!  The winning playspace in Hanwell, West London won plaudits from the judging panel for its innovative landscaping and use of natural play equipment, supplied by Timberplay.

Featuring a variety of innovative Timberplay products, King George´s Field Playscape in Hanwell was designed and project managed by multi-award winning Groundwork London Landscape Architects, Adam White and Andrée Davies. Underpinned by sustainability, the playground embodies natural play in its truest sense and creates what Adam refers to as ‘a challenging, exciting, playful landscape´.

Two popular features are the 1.5 metres wide slide and pod swing; both promote social interaction alongside play. The climbing forest, which serves as a focal point for the play space, was selected as it is appealing to all users of the space, from young to old.

We also entered the awards independently, championing the inspired playground design at Castle Howard, as it has significantly increased visitor numbers for the Yorkshire stately home. We were delighted to hear that Castle Howard was short listed, particularly as it is the first time we have entered the highly acclaimed industry awards. Managing Director at Timberplay, Paul Collings, comments on the awards:-
“We chose to enter the Castle Howard playground into the awards as we believe it effectively demonstrated the power of play; increasing visitors and revenue, undoubtedly a priority for commercial visitor attractions. However, when we saw we were up against the Hanwell Playspace we knew we had some stiff competition!
It was a delight for Timberplay to work alongside Adam and Andrée, two architects that I would describe as pioneers in the field of natural play and we were thrilled to see Adam on stage receiving the award. We feel very proud that Groundwork West London chose to use Timberplay equipment throughout the playspace and look forward to working with them again on some more award winning designs.”
