Cannon Hall Farm

With a farm typically being seen as an attraction for younger children, Cannon Hall wanted to create a play area specifically for a higher age range, widening the appeal of the attraction. They already had a significant adventure playground, but felt this needed a boost with the addition of some attention grabbing elements.

The Playscape

National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) member, Cannon Hall had a sizable £240,000 budget to invest and their money went along way with the creation of a climbing forest of gigantic proportions. Generous oak timbers, Hercules steel core ropes, platforms and a climbing structure all go to create a challenging play space for older children. Balance, co-ordination, confidence and a sense of adventure are pre-requisites for successful completion of all the obstacles within the climbing forest. Those not ready to take on the Climbing Forest can get some practice on the climbing structure – a wonderful introduction to develop the skills required for the challenges ahead.

Thrill seekers also gravitate towards two immense pyramid towers linked with a metal crawl tunnel. Two lengthy slides, one spanning 48ft, transport children down to the lower playground in breath-taking style.

A nest swing and jack straw see-saws provide play value for children of all ages, and a space net serves as the perfect vantage point to survey the rest of the site.

2 pyramid towers, 2 tunnel slides (one 14.5m, one 10m), connection frame, connection tunnel, running boards with chains, suspension bridge, Corocord macro space net, vertical climbing wall, rope bridge, rigid bridge, cradle nest swing, jackstraws see-saw, climbing forest, climbing structure (07).

“Considering the size of the site we believe we already achieve optimum visitor numbers with 220,000 per annum, however, with plans to increase the admission costs in the near future, what is important to us is ensuring we can provide superior value for money. This investment in play is only the first stage in our redevelopment program, next year we are planning several major changes to the farm, increasing the opportunities for secondary spend and enhancing the whole visitor experience further.
Play has always been important to us and our visitors and we now feel that we have taken this to the next level. I was very impressed with the Timberplay product range and moreover their whole approach to play – it was this ethos that drove me to choose Timberplay to create an adventure playground which we believe to be one of the County’s best”

Robert Nicholson, Farm Manager at Cannon Hall Farm.
