West Park Housing Scheme
West Park Housing
The West Park Housing scheme comprises approximately 500 new build and conversion dwellings in Epsom, Surrey. Play was stipulated as part of the requirements attached to the planning consent. However, joint venture developer Crest Nicholson / Linden Homes decided to create play areas that went above the expectations for the scheme, with two landscaped two play spaces that will delight the younger residents of West Park.
Haven for play
The developer turned to Timberplay as trusted supplier to install the spaces, one smaller set in a heavily wooded area and another which was landscaped to create a pleasant haven for play. Within the open space area Timberplay worked closely with Crest Nicholson / Linden Homes to develop the landscape designs, with key play pieces positioned around the site, selected to appeal to a wide age range.
The play areas have a selection of small play equipment, perfect for toddler play, for example a Snail and Swinging Horse and Hut Combination, along with other more challenging equipment, like Climbing Nets, Climbing Boulder and Climbing Structure. There is also various pieces that facilitate shared play for several ages all at one time, the Jack Straw See Saw for example, slides and the Cradle Nest Swing. Robust timbers with super strong and durable ropes ensure that the play areas will be around for many years, providing the perfect community hub for families within the development.
Paul LLewellan, Technical Manager, comments.
“We have been very pleased with the work on the new play areas, they both look fantastic within the development. The new residents have been watching the work being completed and are besides themselves with excitement. We know that when they get onto the equipment they are not going to be disappointed.”
Playful landscaping includes a tunnel, mounds and embankments and grass mats were selected to provide a safe surface, whilst still looking natural within the settings created.
Santa & Cole street furniture
As well as the play area, the scheme also used a choice selection of street furniture from Santa & Cole, including 3 NeoRomantico Liviano benches, with exceptional design credentials and the Cradle to Cradle certification for their sustainable manufacturing. In addition colourful and fun Key bike racks in two colours are used and cleaning up litter has never been more tasteful with the addition of Maya litter bins, all strategically placed to enhance the residents experience whilst enjoying the new play areas at West Park.
