Project Description

Daisy Nook

Daisy Nook, Stannybrook Road, Failsworth, Oldham Manchester M35 9WJ

Daisy Nook is a 40 acre country park located between Oldham, Failsworth and Ashton under Lyne, noted for its varied habitats, unused canals and basins, picnic sites, bird watching, orienteering, fishing, visitor centre and Café.

With a strong history of canals and water, Oldham Council wanted a bespoke play feature that celebrated the heritage. The result was a 30ft freight barge which houses a sand play building site complete with cranes and lifting pulleys and a Captain’s Cabin. The barge is fully wheelchair accessible and is moored along an existing bridle path, within a carefully landscaped play area, developed by the local authority. Together the landscaping and the structure form Tots Lock. This is the first time Daisy Nook has incorporated any play equipment on site, and the barge is the only equipment within the Tots Lock. Despite atrocious weather, this play installation resulted in an increase of 5000 visitors during the May to December period the year after installation.
